Ilene S. Dorfman Scholarship Fund
Ilene was born in Boston, MA. She was raised in Revere, MA where she attended school & graduated from Revere High School. She went on to study at Bentley College. In 1972 Ilene married Marvin Dorfman also from Revere. In 1973 they moved to Peabody where they raised their family and lived until 2007. Her family was her main focus and she stayed home with her girls for a number of years. Eventually Ilene started her own business and for many years worked as a bookkeeper in the construction industry. Family was very important to her as was her Jewish identity. Ilene was always hosting the Jewish holidays for family and friends. In the later years this included her son-in-laws and eventually her first granddaughter. Ilene made sure that her girls attended Hebrew School each year as this was a priority for her. She was very proud when both girls completed Hebrew School and had their Bat Mitzvah's. Ilene passed away on September 8, 2007 after a long illness. Her family has set up a scholarship in her memory and in commemoration of what would have been her 75th birthday. The purpose of the scholarship is to assist with the cost of Hebrew School for families in need. This was something very important to Ilene and her family is pleased to do this in her memory.
